BEIRUT: Huddled under umbrellas, groups of teachers and members of workers’ unions gathered Wednesday to protest the salary scale bill being discussed in Parliament.
Other workers joined teachers weathering the wet conditions outside Parliament to protest the salary adjustment bill.
Finance Minister Ali Hasan Khalil estimated the controversial bill, which would restructure public sector pay, would cost LL1.2 trillion ($800 million). This would be funded through tax increases, a number of which MPs approved.
