An Ethiopian domestic worker in Barja stabbed her pregnant employer repeatedly on Tuesday, wounding her and killing her unborn child, a security source told The Daily Star.

The security source said that she was stabbed "10-12 times" across her upper body before the domestic worker attempted suicide by stabbing herself.

Security forces apprehended the domestic worker and she was taken to Dr. Monzer Al Hajj Hospital in Jiyyeh, south of Beirut.

She is in critical condition.

The employer, identified as I.Kh. was taken to Sibline Hospital.

I.Kh. remains in stable condition, though her unborn son passed away, as he was impacted by three of the stabs.

The domestic worker was recently hired to help I.Kh. during her pregnancy while her husband was abroad for work, the security source added.

Reasons for the incident are not clear.
