BEIRUT: Women and children pelted police with stones after authorities raided a hashish workshop in east Lebanon, Internal Security Forces said. Although police routinely confiscate drugs, last week’s seizure was especially large. A Hadath Baalbeck police unit seized 25 bags of manufactured hashish--all weighing about 600 kilograms, 50 bags of hashish seeds, and machinery used to process hash. The drugs workshop was an under construction house owned by H.M., 51. Police came under attack as they tried to burn the hashish. Area women and children pelted the police with rocks and unidentified individuals fired shots. Unknown people also blocked the only road in the town with tires and stones to prevent the unit from moving the confiscated machines outside the area. Police vehicles were damaged during the incident. The statement said that the confiscated items were handed over to the Anti-Drug Bureau.
