On 01 Jan 17, Lebanese police tightened security around two churches in south Lebanon, in what seems to be a preemptive measure against attacks. The Internal Security Forces units had deployed to Saida’s Maronite Archdiocese. Tensions in the neighboring Ain al-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp have been turbulent following the recent assassinations inside the camp. Also, police officers guarded the Saint George Church in Dibil near the southern border town of Bint Jbeil. No further details were provided.
