Palestinian factions Thursday shut down two main entrances to the U.N. Relief Works Agency office in Beirut, in what they considered a fist warning for further escalatory acts.

Security forces backed by riot police deployed heavily in the area as protesters prevented employees from entering the building.

Protesters reopened the entrances at 11:00 a.m..

Ali Faisal, member of the political office of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, addressed demonstrators by urging them to unite.

“We are determined to continue our popular movements,” he said, warning UNRWA against continuing its “unjust” decisions.

Faisal vowed to kickstart an open-ended strike if the agency didn’t back down on its decision to modify the agency's health care program.

Raafat Marra, a Hamas official, underscored that UNRWA’s policies are “destroying the life of Palestinian refugees and causing damage.”
