Authorities arrested Friday the owner of a factory accused of causing the Berdawni River to turn black, prompting the factory’s employees to protest at Zahle’s Justice Palace.
Zahle Environmental Public Prosecutor Iyad Berdan took Wissam al-Tannouri, who is also the mayor of the Zahle village of Qaa al-Reem, into custody for the Mimosa Sanitary Paper Company's involvement in the pollution of the Bekaa river, the NNA reported.
He was released Thursday evening.
