BEIRUT: North Lebanon residents rallied to demand the re-opening of the Qleiaat airport to supplement Beirut’s Rafik Hariri International Airport.

“We demand the re-operation of the Qleiaat airport,” a demonstrator said during the rally held in in the Tal Hayat area of Akkar.

Earlier this week, a civil society campaign aimed at pressuring state authorities into re-opening the north Lebanon airport was launched on social media under the title: "Qleiaat ... is flying."

Many believe a renovated airport could strengthen the economic situation in north Lebanon.
