BEIRUT: Dozens of truckers protested the recent closure of Mount Lebanon sand quarries by cutting off a highway junction in the town of Kfardebian Thursday.
The drivers blocked the road with their trucks in both directions, creating a huge traffic jam, according to the National News Agency.
Truck drivers held several similar protests last year, blocking the Beirut-Jounieh highway, and roads in the Kesrouan district near sand quarries where authorities had restricted them from entering.
At the time, authorities had refused to renew their permits to extract sand from the areas, but the dispute was later solved.
