Residents of a Palestinian refugee camp Tuesday erected a protest tent at its entrance to complain against aid cuts by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency. The state-run National News Agency reported that the refugees of Mieh Mieh erected the tent to pressure UNRWA to reconsider its newly adopted health policies. A banner bearing slogans was hung on the tent, calling on the U.N. agency to assume its responsibilities and “stop humiliating refugees.” Fouad Othman, Sidon’s representative of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, who visited the protest tent and a hunger striker, underlined that the “acts undertaken by the Palestinian people will continue to press UNRWA to back down on its decision.” Palestinian Haitham al-Ghazi went on hunger strike Monday in the camp.
