The Lebanese Army Monday quelled mass celebratory gunshots in the Burj al-Barajneh Palestinian refugee camp marking the release of an inmate, a security source told The Daily Star.

"They were celebrating the return of Shadi al-Far, who finished his term at Sidon prison," the security source added. "Two thousand gunshots were fired."

The incident took place in the camp's Husseinet al-Ramel neighborhood. It isn’t clear how long al-Far was incarcerated, or why.

The source said that there were no injuries, and dispelled reports from local media that clashes took placed between the Lebanese Army and armed groups in the camp south of Beirut.
