A man’s body was uncovered at the bottom of a valley in Chouf, an Army statement reported.

After the Army received information about the body, found on a river bank at the bottom of Bisri valley near the town of Joun, an Air Force helicopter recovered it and handed it over to the Civil Defense.

The statement said that an investigation was underway to identify the man. However a security source told The Daily Star earlier Sunday that the deceased had been missing for 14 days.

The source said that security forces were talking to five men who said they had been approached two weeks ago by a man who said he was look for gold, and that they directed him to the area where the body was found.

Local media reported that Sunday’s operation was made more difficult by the challenging topography in the area, made up of sheer cliffs. The body was reportedly airlifted to Sidon’s government hospital.

This security incident was mapped according to the closest possible location.
