Man steals officer's gun and assaults officers in Beddawi
Joint security forces in north Lebanon’s Badawi Palestinian camp Sunday arrested a man after he allegedly stole an officer’s gun and assaulted security personnel, the state-run National News Agency reported.
The clashes broke out Sunday morning, when suspect Sh.Sh. – known as Al-Shemo – reportedly took an officer’s gun, which prompted security to conduct a house raid. Al-Shemo resisted arrest, according to NNA, and opened fire. He also threw grenades in the direction of the security forces, according to the report.
One grenade reportedly exploded while inside a tent, causing the canvas to catch fire, but no casualties or injuries were reported.
After his arrest, Al-Shemo was handed over to Lebanese Army Intelligence. He is reported to have had several pre-existing warrants out for his arrest.
Beddawi’s joint security force issued a statement after the incident was resolved to report that “security forces solved the conflict peacefully.” Despite the shooting, the matter had been dealt with, the statement said, and Sh.Sh. had been detained and handed over to the Lebanese authorities.
