 Armed clashes evening between supporters of the Progressive Socialist Party and the Lebanese Democratic Party in the Aley town of Choueifat left a man killed.

PSP supporter Alaa Abi Faraj, was shot dead in clashes that erupted between adherents of both parties in the area.

Abi Faraj was a Civil Defense volunteer, according to local media reports.

The exact circumstances of his death and the nature of the dispute remained unclear, but local media reported that the incident unfolded as a result of parliamentary elections held Sunday.

Tensions between supporters of the two parties in the area have been tense since Sunday night.

PSP leader Walid Joumblatt and LDP head Talal Arslan issued a joint statement calling on supporters of their parties to keep calm and maintain stability in the area.

"The parliamentary elections page has turned, and we are keen that no dispute takes place in the mountains even if the political vision on different issues diverge," the statement said.
