Man shoots himself to delay bank payment
A businessman in Beirut was revealed to have shot himself and was not assaulted, as was initially reported, a security source told The Daily Star. "He had to pay $200,000 to the bank, but did not have that money on him," the source said. "He said he had been hoping to use a medical report due to his injuries to have more time to pay back the amount." The source added that Hrout Kfarkian had been waiting for a $600,000 payment from an undisclosed location in Africa.
The public prosecutor was notified of the details, and called for his arrest on charges of providing false information. Authorities had conducted fingerprint tests on the gun. The results showed that they matched that of the businessman's.
Initial reports had said that Kfarkian was shot Tuesday by two unknown gunmen on a motorcycle by the Middle East & Africa Bank in Jnah. He was rushed to al-Zahra Hospital. The security source said that he had shot himself in the shoulder, though the bullet nearly pierced his heart.
