A Palestinian man was in police custody after allegedly impersonating a doctor on multiple occasions to steal patients’ money in various hospitals across Lebanon, according to an Internal Security Forces statement.

The suspect, identified as Aa.R., a Palestinian man in his late twenties, reportedly entered multiple hospitals in Beirut, Mount Lebanon and the south recently, posing as a doctor and asking patients for urine samples.

Once the patients had gone to the bathroom, the man would steal money from their purses and then leave the hospital, the ISF report read.

The statement did not specify which hospitals the man had used for the alleged string of thefts, or when exactly the thefts began.

Beirut police arrested the man for the thefts, the ISF said, following “intense investigations” into his whereabouts.
