Mount Lebanon police have arrested a man suspected of deluding people into buying a "winning" lottery ticket that would grant them the main prize in exchange for a hefty amount of cash, authorities said.

A police unit from the town of Burj Hammoud, northeast of Beirut, Monday caught a Lebanese, identified by his initials M.M., red handed as he was conning an old man into buying a lottery ticket, which he alleged would win the jackpot, an Internal Security Forces statement said.

The 43-year-old suspect has previously managed to pull the same trick more than 22 times in the capital Beirut, as well as in Jounieh and Jbeil, north of Beirut, ISF added.

The suspect would lead the scheme with his accomplice, who is currently under-pursuit, and the two would ask for $500 to $2,000 in return for the promised ticket.
