A car thief using forged documents was arrested at a checkpoint in Zahle’s Riyaq, 10 minutes after the owner reported the incident in nearby Barr Elias, the Internal Security Forces reported in a statement.
The suspect, identified as Lebanese national F.M., born in 1980, was pulled over at the checkpoint Sunday after the Syrian car owner dialed the police hotline and reported the incident, the ISF said.
The ISF also seized forged documents that the suspect allegedly used to get past checkpoints, as he is wanted with "several" arrest warrants for theft and a hit and run.
The car was returned to the owner after a green light from the judiciary, while investigations into the suspect are ongoing.
