BEIRUT: The Lebanese Forces and the Free Patriotic Movementdistanced themselves from a fight between student supporters of their respective parties that took place outside a Lebanese University campus. “The individual scuffle that happened outside the campus of the faculty is between a number of youths, some of whom are students while the others are from the area,” a joint statement issued by the LF and FPM student bodies said. “The scuffle has no political background.” The reason for the fight, which took place outside the faculty of law at the Lebanese University in Jal al-Dib, remains unclear. “We stress the firm relationship between the students of both parties,” the statement said. The parties signed an agreement in 2016 aimed at ending decades of animosity.
