Lebanon charges 8 with terror-related offenses

Four detainees and four fugitives were charged with belonging to terrorist groups Thursday, the state-run National News Agency reported.

Military Investigative Judge Fadi Sawwan issued indictments against three Syrians and a Lebanese who are in custody, and four other Syrian fugitives.

Syrian national Maher Qatrab was charged with belonging to a terrorist group, carrying out terrorist acts, murdering and attempting to murder Lebanese soldiers in the northeastern border town of Arsal, and unlawful possession of weapons and explosives.

Syrian national Fouad al-Tinawi was charged with belong to a terrorist group, carrying out terrorist acts, behaving aggressively with security forces, and unlawful possession of weapons and explosives.

Syrian national Ibrahim Sharouf and four unidentified Syrian fugitives were charged with belonging to a terrorist group, carrying out terrorist acts, opening fire at soldiers in Arsal, attempting to murder military personnel and possession of unlicensed weapons.

The fugitives were charged in absentia.

Lebanese national Bilal Khodr Haidar was charged with belonging to a terrorist group, inciting strife and disorder in addition to the possession of unlicensed weapons.

Formal arrest warrants were issued to the suspects, who have been referred to the military court for trial.
