General Security said Tuesday it arrested a Syrian man with alleged links to "terrorist" groups that played a role in the 2013-2014 car bomb attack against Lebanon.
In a statement, General Security said M.Q. provided financial and logistical support to extremists in Syria and played a role in rigging five Lebanon-bound cars. Two of the cars were stopped by Lebanese security forces, two others exploded in Beirut's southern suburbs of Bir Abed and Rweiss, and another one hit an army checkpoint in the northeastern border town Arsal, leading to the deaths of security personnel, civilians and left material damage, according to the statement.
