BEIRUT: Activists held a protest at the site of a resort being built in Beirut’s Ramlet al-Baida area despite a Shura Council order to temporarily halt the construction.

A number of protesters from the group Citizens Within a State, accompanied by former minister Charbel Nahhas, rallied against construction at Beirut’s remaining public beach, warning that the Shura Council ruling should be respected.

“Demolish concrete to protect the law,” a banner read.

The Shura Council’s order, issued in February, added that an investigation was warranted based on public health and safety concerns.

The decision was released following a legal appeal to the council launched by the Legal Agenda and the Green Line Association on Nov. 28, 2016.

This security incident was mapped according to the closest possible location.
