Students from the Lebanese University in Hadath protested electricity and water cuts on campus and in student housing.

“Our exams keep getting postponed and rescheduled because of the electricity problem. This is not right,” a protesting student told local media. "We can't even heat our food in our dorm's microwaves!"

"We care about the dignity of this university and its students," another student said, adding that the protestors were only asking for their basic rights without taking any political or sectarian stances.

"We have had this problem with the dorms for two weeks," he said. "While the water was fixed last week, we want the whole problem to be fixed."

Maintenance workers have been on a general strike since March 26, following the Lebanese University's interest in replacing Al Kharafi's maintenance services with another company.

Students did not blame Al Kharafi for the cuts.

"This is not about one company or another, it's about corruption in general," one student said.

The Lebanese University is the only public university in the country.
