A man with alleged links to ISIS was arrested in the northern city of Tripoli for planning and taking part in attacks, the Lebanese Army said in a statement Tuesday.
The statement said Mazen Ahmad al-Hajj Hussein had taken part in the October 2014 Tripoli clashes against the army, and was in contact with heads of militant groups in the city after the military crackdown there.
The army said that Hussein was receiving orders from fugitive Mohammad Omar al-Iaali after Tripoli began witnessing stability following the end of battles.
Iaali had asked Hussein to recruit militants to carry out attacks against the army, and told him that ISIS would provide all necessary support for him to create militant cells in Tripoli, the statement added.
Iaali had also tasked Hussein, on behalf of ISIS, with targeting army bases with suicide bombers, while ISIS' leaders waited to analyze the seriousness of the militant cells created by Hussein before providing him with logistical, financial and military support.
