The Lebanese Army deployed heavily outside a north Lebanon Palestinian refugee camp in search of gunmen.

A security source told The Daily Star that the army's reinforcement outside the Beddawi Camp near Tripoli came after drug dealers opened random fire earlier this morning at the site.

The shooting comes in protest of the arrest of four people on suspicion of being connected to clashes that broke out in Beddawi Monday.

Heavy clashes had erupted between a local security force in Beddawi Camp and a group of drug dealers. The armed dispute was sparked by a disagreement between groups of drug dealers, which led to a shootout and also saw a grenade being thrown.

Tensions were high Tuesday night between drug dealers, who feared that the security force could raid the area and arrest them.

Residents of the camp demanded that drug dealers leave the camp to avert any security escalation.

A security source said that Mohammad Shaabi Tuesday evening opened sporadic gunfire at the camp in response to an army raid in Wadi Nahle.

The raid was conducted in an attempt to arrest Ibrahim Obeid. It remains unclear whether it achieved its purpose.
