The Lebanese Army arrested a Palestinian national suspected of dealing drugs in Sidon, a source told The Daily Star.

A Lebanese Army intelligence unit detained Hani Kh. after Palestinian security forces handed him over at an Army checkpoint near Ain al-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp, the source said.

Hani Kh. is “one of the most prominent wanted persons on cases of drug dealing and trafficking inside the [Ain al-Hilweh] camp,” the source said, adding that the Palestinian force originally detained the suspect on Friday inside the camp. Sunday’s arrest is part of a wider campaign against drug dealers in the camp.

Palestinian security forces have been cracking down on drug dealers inside the camp following a decision from Palestinian political leaders, the source said. Five suspects were previously arrested and handed over to Lebanese authorities.

A sixth suspect was taken into custody while at a Sidon hospital where he was transferred following a wound he sustained in an armed conflict in Ain al-Hilweh.
