The Lebanese Army arrested a notorious fugitive who fled a military crackdown in the Bekaa Valley area last week. Hamza Rajeh Jaafar was arrested by an Army Intelligence patrol, according to an Army statement. Jaafar was the alleged leader of an armed group. “He is wanted [in accordance with] several search warrants and verdicts,” the statement read. Jaafar reportedly had outstanding warrants for abduction, multiple counts of armed robbery, auto theft, attempted murder of military personnel, drug and weapons trafficking, threats made to citizens and extortion of protection money. “Jaafar fled from the Bekaa Valley to Beirut during the raids that an Army force implemented,” the statement read. “He was monitored and arrested wandering around with the passport of his deceased brother, Rashid Jaafar.”
