Members of the Beirut Bar Association and lawyers in the north protested Monday what they called the unsuitable conditions at Lebanon’s justice palaces, the state-run National News Agency said.

Lawyers held a one-hour symbolic protest in which they abstained from attending court sessions to denounce what they said were inappropriate working conditions.

In the past few weeks, lawmakers have decried power outages in the justice palaces, which they say have affected their ability to carry out their jobs.

Monday's protest followed another that was held Friday. The lawyers held up signs urging caretaker Justice Minister Salim Jreissati to take action on the chronic electricity shortage at the centers of Lebanese legal practice. The lawyers lit candles during the protest, as many have reportedly been doing inside their offices during power cuts.
