On 31 Oct 16, the Lebanese Armed Forces announced that two individuals, a Syrian and a Lebanese, were detained in east Lebanon for an alleged kidnapping-for-ransom. Syrian Ibrahim al-Masri and Lebanese Ibrahim Abdel-Khalek were arrested in Bar Elias near the eastern city of Zahle for allegedly kidnapping Taha al-Omar, who they intended to hold for ransom. Omar was subsequently freed by the military.
