Hundreds of Kataeb Party supporters rallied Sunday to mark Lebanon's 72nd Independence Day and renew calls for the election of a president.
"The republic needs a new head of state," the leader of the Kataeb student committee Ralph Sayhoun said.
He called in a brief speech at the beginning of the rally "for reclaiming the true meaning of independence... as the republic cannot stand without its head."
Protesters held Kataeb and Lebanese flags, with some wearing t-shirts with the slogan "save the presidency" written on them.
They also held banners that read: "The republic needs a head," and "You (rival politicians) destroyed the republic." Some also held green and yellow smoke sticks.
