The Internal Security Forces freed a 7-year-old Syrian child who was kidnapped Thursday morning in Zahle’s Barr Elias, an ISF tweet reported Thursday evening.

The ISF said it managed to free the girl, identified by her initials S.A.K., without paying the ransom demanded by her kidnappers earlier in the day.

The child was taken from in front of her house as she was about to get on a school bus with her brother, a security source told The Daily Star. The kidnappers had demanded a ransom in exchange for her release, the source said.

“Five minutes after the kidnapping, an unknown man called the girl’s family and demanded $250,000,” the source said. The call reportedly came from a Lebanese number.

The child’s father, who owns a clothing store in Barr Elias, had urged security agencies to do their all to bring his daughter back, the state-run National News Agency reported at the time.
