The Internal Security Forces Saturday announced the arrest of a man – described as “one of the most wanted” – who was allegedly linked to a terrorist organization.

The suspect, identified as Palestinian national Aa.Q., born in 1974, was apprehended on the outskirts of the Beddawi Palestinian refugee camp in Tripoli after being lured there following a nearly monthlong monitoring operation, the ISF said.

A.Q. has allegedly been involved in terrorism-related cases; he was wanted on several criminal charges as well as for being a suspected member of a terrorist organization.

When the ISF attempted to arrest him, the suspect tried to escape on a motorbike, taking advantage of the fact that a large crowd had gathered. This “forced the unit to fire shots to disperse the crowd,” after which the ISF took the suspect into custody, the agency said.

He was referred to the judiciary for investigation.
