A police officer shot dead a teacher in the Bekaa Valley’s Baalbeck, a security source told The Daily Star. Zaher Shalha, the teacher, was reportedly ambushed on a local road in the town of Ansar by gunmen who opened fire on his Jeep Grand Cherokee.

When Shalha tried to leave his car, the gunmen turned their weapons on him, instantly killing him. Shalha was returning home from Douris Public School, where he taught, when the gunmen attacked his vehicle. The Internal Security Forces soon arrived on the scene, accompanied by the Lebanese Red Cross, which transported Shalha’s body to the local hospital.

ISF’s Information Branch identified one of the key shooting suspects as M.D., from the town of Maaraboun, and swiftly apprehended him for the crime. M.D. is reportedly a sergeant in the ISF. An ISF source told The Daily Star that the murder of Shalha is believed to have been an “honor” killing. Shalha is thought to have had relations with the married sister of the suspect.

This security incident was mapped according to the closest possible location.
