The Internal Security Forces announced it had arrested one of its own officers for facilitating the unauthorized movement of a wanted man between Beirut and the Bekaa.

The suspect, identified as 1st Lt. Aa.M., was arrested on Jan. 10 while transferring the wanted person, identified as Aa.Aa.M., from Beirut towards the Bekaa Valley, using a military vehicle he had been allocated.

The ISF, according to the statement, carried out an ambush in the Sofar area, resulting in the arrest of the officer and the man he was transporting, who had 26 warrants against him. The suspect was also reportedly wanted by Interpol for trading, manufacturing and smuggling of drugs, in addition to the crimes of theft, fraud and counterfeiting.

ISF said that the announcement of the officer’s arrest was made as part of a consistent effort to maintain transparency, evidenced by the fact that a number of its members had been implicated in criminal acts and “duly charged.”

The ISF “will not tolerate any abuses that may be committed” by its members in the past or in the future, the statement said.

Investigations are continuing under the supervision of the judiciary.
