أعلنت المديرية العامة لقوى الأمن الداخلي انه "بتاريخ 14/12/2018 وفي منطقة الرويس، ونتيجة المتابعة والاستقصاءات المكثفة، تمكنت فصيلة برج البراجنة في وحدة الدرك الاقليمي، من توقيف ع. ع. (مواليد عام ١٩٩٩، لبناني) بجرم القيام بعمليات احتيالية داخل متاجر في مدينة بيروت وضواحيها، بحيث كان يعمد الى السرقة من داخل الحقائب النسائية وسرقة بضائع من المتاجر، ومن ثم يعمل على اعادتها متذرعا بانها ليست طلبه او ان والدته لا تريدها، ويتم دفع ثمنها له. بالتحقيق معه، اعترف بما نسب اليه، وبتعاطيه المخدرات.
