A group of 36 Syrian nationals has been arrested after crossing into Lebanon through an illegal crossing, an ISF statement said.

The group, which reportedly included 14 children, arrived to the Bekaa town of Suweiri, near the Syrian border. They were immediately arrested and referred to the judiciary for legal prosecution.

In 2015, the Lebanese government barred the U.N. refugee agency from registering Syrian refugees and placed additional restrictions on their entry into the country without guarantors, work visas or visas for transit.

The tightened measures led to a rise in the number of Syrians attempting to enter Lebanon irregularly.
