Unknown assailants opened fire overnight at the residence of Bzal municipality chief, causing material damage, the state-run National News Agency reported Monday.
NNA said gunmen shot at the houses of municipal chief Hatem Othman and his cousin Ali Abdul Qadir Othman in the town of Bzal in the district of Akkar, without reporting any casualties.
In a statement, the head of municipality called on Interior Minister Nouhad Machnouq and security agencies to "launch an investigation into the incident, unveil the culprits and bring them to justice to set an example for others."
He underscored that "the cowardly act will not prevent him from continuing his duty," saying it's the second time that gunmen target his house.
Armed men opened fire at Othman’s house in March but investigations did not lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
