On 07 Mar 16, The General Security Directorate announced that it detained Syrian national S.J., for being a member of the terrorist group Daesh. He confessed to beheading kidnapped Lebanese soldier Abbas Medlej in 2014. According to General Security, the detainee also confessed to killing a police officer during the raid. "He was recently involved in surveillance of Lebanese army checkpoints in Arsal, as a prelude to a new attack aimed at kidnapping soldiers," the statement added.
