On April 8, 2015, Renuka Irangani and her husband Jagdish Kumar were lured into detention by Lebanon’s General Security. Renuka, a migrant worker from Sri Lanka, has been a passionate campaigner against General Security’s decision to not grant residency renewals to children of migrant workers in Lebanon who were born and raised in the country.
Insan Association has reasons to believe that Renuka’s detention is an act of retribution against her outspokenness on this issue. Renuka has been in detention in the Adlieh Retention Center since last Wednesday in very poor conditions. On April 16, a deportation order was issued requiring Renuka to leave Lebanon by April 18.
