Former Al-Qaa mayor arrested over murder

The former head of the Al-Qaa municipality in Baalbek was apprehended by Internal Security Forces Thursday for allegedly killing a man five years ago.
The former mayor was identified by his initials as J.N. According to the ISF he allegedly murdered his brother-in-law Shawki Maalouf when he shot him with an assault rifle in 2010 over to longstanding dispute.
Maalouf died instantly while J.N. fled the scene and became a fugitive. The ISF Information Branch conducted prolonged investigations and surveillance operations in an effort to track down J.N.
The culprit was apprehended at around 1:30 p.m. by a patrol belonging to the ISF’s Information Branch while driving a black Mercedes in one of Lebanon’s southern districts. He was then handed to the ISF in the south and investigations are ongoing by a the relevant judge.
