A tank delivering fuel to a gas station in the city of Jbeil, north of Beirut, caught fire Friday, causing a huge fire that injured one person and sent panic-stricken residents onto the streets.

One person suffering from burns was rushed to the city’s Al-Maounat hospital and was still being treated in the emergency room more than two hours after the fire broke out, a hospital spokesperson told The Daily Star.

Witnesses said huge plumes of smoke covered the Mar Jirjis neighborhood where the gas station is located as civil defense forces rushed to the scene to put out the fire.

The fuel tank and two cars in addition to the gas station’s offices were destroyed in the fire, the Civil Defense said on its Twitter account.
