Unknown assailants in Hermel assaulted a doctor and his family Monday before looting their home, the state-run National News Agency reported. The doctor was identified in the NNA report as Ghassan Alawah, though his wife and 15-year-old son were not named. Alawah sustained head wounds from being hit with a handgun. The assailants stole money, jewelry, hunting weapons and two phones. Internal Security Forces investigated the house after the incident. The family urged security forces to end the unstable security situation in the area, which has seen rising crime.

On Friday, Baalbek-Hermel Gov. Bashir Khodr vowed to put an end to the security chaos in the area “soon." Khodr said that the government is prioritizing the security situation in the area, pledging that security forces would pursue fugitives.
