EDL - Electricite du Liban

Electricite Du Liban's part-timers on Monday blocked the doors of "Royal Tower" facing "New Company" services group, which is located in the vicinity of EDL premises in Corniche al-Nahr. This happened in the wake of EDL administration's decision to stop 5 part-timers from working in its Jezzine branch. It also comes to pressure the company to pay salaries and educational scholarships. When the workers heard that their dossier would not be settled before at least a week, it prompted one of them to slash his skin and menace to slaughter himself while another threw diesel on his body and threatened to set himself on fire. Ultimately, the EDL day-workers ended their sit-in, as the company agreed to pay the remaining salaries for the month of August, pending the decision of the cabinet regarding schools. The company also cancelled the notes issued against some of the day-workers to suspend them from work. The workers announced that their sit-in inside the EDL building will continue, hoping that they would be granted their rights without having to resort to tough measures as demonstrations and roads' cut off. http://www.nna-leb.gov.lb/en/show-news/33595/EDL-day-workers-threaten-to... http://www.nna-leb.gov.lb/en/show-news/33590/EDL-contract-workers-bloc-3... http://www.nna-leb.gov.lb/en/show-news/33617/EDL-day-workers-end-sit-in-...
