BEIRUT: Truckers in east Lebanon Tuesday briefly blocked a vital east Lebanon road in protest of a decision to close sand quarries critical for their work.
The state-run National News Agency reported that a number of trucks blocked the Zahle-Chtoura road in the Bekaa Valley in the morning to protest the decision.
The demonstration prompted the Internal Security Forces to divert traffic to other routes.
Protesters held banners denouncing measures targeting quarries. They called on the Interior Ministry to rescind a decision that halts the permits of some warehouses and to simultaneously reactivate work at all quarries.
The reopened the road after about an hour.
