On 20 Apr 16, in Saida, around 50 women (Wives and mothers) of Islamist prisoners (Including notorious Sheikh Ahmad Al-Assir) protested outside Dar al-Fatwa demanding the release of their relatives. They criticized Dar al-Fatwa for not taking notice of the dire health situation Assir is facing in prison, saying that he should receive medical treatment at the Rihanieh military prison, where he is currently being held. Saida Mufti Sheikh Salim Soussan met with the women and called on security forces to take into consideration Assir’s worsening health situation.
