Clashes erupted Monday night in the east Lebanon city of Baalbek between the Lebanese Army and armed men after two women were detained at the Dahr al-Baidar checkpoint, a security source told The Daily Star Tuesday. The clashes that occurred on the outskirts of Baalbek's Hay al-Sharawneh neighborhood lasted between 9 p.m. and 1 a.m. The dispute reportedly erupted after the wives of two wanted men were detained at an army checkpoint in Dahr al-Baidar, the source said. The two women were identified as the wives of Mohammad Doura Jaafar and his brother Hussein.The Jaafar brothers are wanted on several arrest warrants, including for assaulting soldiers and tossing grenades at army checkpoints in the area.
