In an issued communiqué by the Army Command Orientation Directorate, it indicated that "around 4:00 o'clock this afternoon, 3 people driving a plateless Range Rover vehicle model sped through an Army checkpoint at Ras el-Mal locality in Hermel, despite several warnings to stop, thus compelling the Army soldiers to open fire against them, who in turn shot back at the soldiers, resulting in the wounding of Ali Mohamad Dandash, who was rushed to hospital where he passed away."
The communiqué added that "the citizen Abbas Mohamad Nasseridine was detained by the Army while Youssef Mohamad Dandash, who opened fire at the military soldiers, managed to escape with his weapon."
