A young child was maimed after a large firecracker exploded in his hand in the southern town of Burj al-Shemali in Tyre, the state-run National News Agency reported.

The child, identified as Syrian J.B., born in 2008, lost several fingers to the blast. He was taken to the nearby Jabal Amel hospital in Tyre for treatment.

Security forces opened an investigation into the incident, the NNA reported.
