Two grenades accidentally detonated Wednesday evening in the southern Beirut suburb of Burj al-Barajneh causing a loud explosion, a security source told The Daily Star. The security source said that around 6:15 p.m., two grenades accidentally exploded at the apartment of Syrian national Fadi Ahmad Abu Bayd, who was wounded and transferred to the nearby Bahman Hospital. The apartment is located on the first floor of an abandoned building on Baajor Street. Civil Defense teams rushed to put out a fire caused by the explosions. The source added that Abu Bayd is wanted by authorities for drug trafficking and a sum of over $6,000 in cash were found at his home by security forces. Conflicting reports had quickly emerged after the explosion was heard, with Hezbollah’s Al-Manar TV and other local media initially saying that a gas cylinder had exploded in a Burj al-Barajneh apartment, leaving two Syrians wounded. Al-Manar however later said that a grenade had accidentally exploded inside the house.
