The victim, identified as Mahmoud Kassem Hjeir, an activist for the Osbat Ansar group, was wounded in the head. The shooter, Mahmoud Azeb, was masked and shot [Hjeir] in the Ain al-Hilweh camp’s vegetable market, causing widespread alarm among residents.

The victim used to talk about Islamist extremists on social media and attack them. According to some information, he may have filed a lawsuit to sue Kamal Badr - Bilal Badr's brother - after [the latter] handed himself over to Lebanese Army Intelligence a few days before his death.

The security source said that investigations had concluded that the shooter, Azeb, had infiltrated the camp from Safsaf Street on November 18th night, and stayed in one of the houses near the market. He committed the murder while people were celebrating a wedding by firing shots – taking advantage of the noise to kill Hjeir.
