A man who killed a relative in the northern city of Tripoli’s Abi Samra area was arrested by the Internal Security Forces, an ISF statement reported Saturday.

The ISF identified the suspect as Lebanese M.Aa., born in 1994, who also holds Australian citizenship and was the victim’s cousin. The victim was identified as Lebanese national Hussein Mahmoud, born in 1991. M.Aa. was arrested for shooting Mahmoud in the chest and head in Abi Samra on March 16. He died of his wounds after having been taken to the hospital.

The ISF said they identified the killer, the murder weapon and the direction in which M.Aa. had fled after the shooting within three hours. M.Aa. was arrested at Beirut’s Rafik Hariri international airport the same day as the crime before he could escape the country.

The ISF said they had determined that the shooting occurred “by mistake,” but no further details were provided.
